Eltham Bird Centre An enclosed area is transformed into a native bush that is home to hundreds of indigenous birds including native keas, kakas, little barn owls and more. The Bird Barn, housing domestic birds from finches to cockatoos, has birds for sale. The showroom shop has many souvenirs and bird keeping merchandise. Encompassing 33,534 hectares (82,864 acres), Egmont National Park is home to several volcanos that jut out of the landscape: Kaitake, Pouaki and, the tallest, Mt Egmont. Walking trails meander throughout the park leading visitors to waterfalls, meadows, wetlands and magnificent viewpoints. The second oldest national park in New Zealand, Egmont is also the most accessible as it is near many towns that offer a range of accommodation.
